A Lesson In Clan History
Long, long ago the Clans’ home by the Lake was destroyed by twolegs, just as the forest had been, and SkyClan’s own territory was no longer inhabitable. StarClan met with SkyClan’s ancestors and determined a place where all five Clans could live together again; as it once was so it would be. They would right the wrong done to SkyClan and bring their Clans to a safe home. And so it came to be that the five Clans joined together again in a new territory big enough for all of them, but their time together was short lived.
Only a few seasons after their long journey, after they had settled into their new territories, a new and fatal epidemic swept through the Clans, swiftly claiming the lives of too many cats to name. The cats that remained seemed immune to the disease, but there were so few, there were simply not enough to keep the five Clans going. The disease had even claimed the lives of two leaders, two medicine cats, and all five deputies. Curiously, the three leaders that remained and the three medicine cats that remained were of the same Clan. The medicine cats announced that this was a sign from StarClan that all the Clans were to join into just three Clans.
The other two Clans, without leadership or direction, leapt at the first chance of some hope and did not protest the medicine cats’ words. Deputies were chosen from among cats not of the leaders’ own Clans to better build trust between them and their new Clanmates. The new Clans were named after the first leaders, Dawnstar, Leafstar, and Rainstar, and new territories were marked out. For a time all was peaceful as both Clans learned to live with the new way of things and coped with all their previous loss, but eventually all returned to normal and life went on.
Many generations have passed and the time of five Clans was so long ago it is more myth than truth to those alive today. StarClan have let the three Clans believe it to be myth as the way of three Clans appears to be their wish.
